SHFG publishes materials both digitally and in the form of mailed newsletters and flyers. The following are examples of publications members can access.
The Federalist
The Federalist, a quarterly newsletter containing illustrated articles on federal history programs, SHFG activities, and news on events related to U.S. government history. Mailed to members. Issues one-year-old and older and an index are available online.
Recent articles include a discussion of plans for the new U.S. Marshals Museum, the work of the U.S. Army Center of Military History, the Army’s art collection, an interview with Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero, reference work at NASA, oral history work in the U.S Forest Service, a new technique for preserving e-mails, and news from the federal history community.
Federal History Journal
Federal History, an open-access, online scholarly journal with articles on the history of the federal government.
Published online annually, the journal features work by federal and academic historians as well as graduate students. The new issue will be posted in January 2012.
Directory of Federal History Offices
The Directory of Federal Historical Programs and Activities. SHFG is updating its 2003 edition, a national directory listing more than 250 programs and agencies, including a roster of current personnel and an index to more than 1,500 staff members. Please complete and return the information form (on the Directory page) with your office’s current information. The Directory is being revised. Please complete and return our information form to help in this process.

Occasional Papers
Occasional Papers, the Society’s professionally published collections of scholarly articles on federal history published until 2005. Available online.
SHFG E-Bulletin
The SHFG e-Bulletin a monthly update on information of interest to the federal historical community—including job postings—distributed via e-mail to members. Offices are encouraged to submit announcements for distribution.
